Winston Randolph Obituary

Winston Durrett Randolph was born on February 7, 1928, “the same year as Mickey Mouse” as he often reminded his grandchildren. He died on Saturday February 26, 2022, at the age of 94, surrounded by his family. He grew up in Springfield, Tennessee, the son of Robert Taylor Randolph and Lela Ellen Durrett Randolph. He graduated, with honors, from Springfield High School in 1945 and then attended the University of Tennessee at Martin where he met the love of his life, Betty Frances Old. They married on August 31, 1947 and were inseparable for the next 75 years. He served for four years in the Tennessee National Guard. Winston returned to Springfield in 1948 and joined the family business, Sprouse Brothers Hardware. He was a founding member of the Robertson County Optimist Club and served in a district leadership role. He helped found the Little League program in Springfield and served as a deacon and Sunday School teacher at Springfield Baptist Church for many years. He also served in various capacities with the Covington Heights Mission, where he taught Sunday School, drove the bus, coached a boxing team, and supported the food bank. He retired from Sprouse Brothers Ace Hardware in 1990 and moved to Florida where he and Betty lived for 16 years. Winston enjoyed traveling of all kinds, most especially in his motor home with friends, gardening, fishing, estate sales, and assisting his wife with her antique shows. In 2006, Betty and Winston moved back to middle Tennessee to be near their family. They built a new home and remained active traveling and keeping up with their grandchildren and great grandchildren. His family and friends will always remember Pops for his sharp wit, mischievous smile, tall tales, and infectious laugh.

Winston is survived by his beloved wife, Betty Randolph, his son Trent (Constance) Randolph, his daughter Patricia (Conrad) Rogers, as well as seven grandchildren and eleven great grandchildren.
