William “Bill” Highsmith, 87, of Springfield, passed away on Friday March 27, 2020 at Vanco Nursing and Rehab Center in Goodlettsville. A private family graveside service will be conducted on Wednesday April 1st in the Bellwood Cemetery in Adams with Tim Harris officiating.
Mr. Highsmith was born October 21, 1932 in Robertson County to the late Oliver and Lorene Alexander Highsmith. He was a graduate of Jo Byrns High School, where he played basketball, and was a member of the Class of 1950. Mr. Highsmith was a veteran of the U.S. Army, where he served during the Korean Conflict. He retired from Bell South/AT&T/Lucent as a Systems Technician with 30 years of service. He then owned and operated The Phone Store for many years in Springfield. Mr. Highsmith was a member of Mt. Denson Cumberland Presbyterian Church and was a member of the Telephone Pioneers. He enjoyed woodworking, carpentry, and going to car shows.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife: Glynda Holman Highsmith. Mr. Highsmith is survived by his son and daughter-in-law: Mark and Vicki Highsmith of Springfield, by his daughters: Kathy Guye and Cindy Highsmith both of Springfield, by his brother: Jerry Highsmith of Texas, by his sister: Ann Armstrong of North Carolina, by his grandchildren: Marcia Lewis, Richard Highsmith, and Emily Highsmith, and by his great grandchildren: Ava Lewis, Adalynn Lewis, Hayden Highsmith, and Carter Highsmith.
