William Eugene Watkins, 63, of Springfield, passed from this life on Friday December 18, 2020 at Select Specialty Hospital in Nashville. You may extend your respects between the hours of 10:00 a.m. and 12 noon on Wednesday December 23rd at the Robertson County Funeral Home. A private family service will be held. A public memorial service will be conducted at a later date.
William was born March 30, 1957 in Cedar Hill. He graduated from Jo Byrns High School Class of 1975 and then attended Vol State Community College. He was a member of St. James Missionary Baptist Church and served in the Army National Guard. William graduated from the FBI National Academy 189th Session. He was a retired Lieutenant with the Springfield Police Department, with 39 years of service. He served on the Crime Stopper’s Board of Directors and was a beloved community leader. William loved to work and his favorite hobby in his spare time was working. His first private security job was with Payne Chevrolet in Springfield and he worked with them for over 20 years. William currently worked security with the Credit Union of Robertson County, Reiselman Buick GMC, the Nashville School of Law, the First Church of the Nazarene in Nashville, and the Ivy Center of Nashville. He had a wonderful career in law enforcement, receiving many awards and acknowledgements along the way, as well as meeting many people and making wonderful friendships. He was preceded in death by his mother: Mary Watkins Gardner, and by his brothers: James Watkins, Logan Gardner, and Thomas Gardner.
William leaves to cherish his memory, his beloved wife: Marcellina Claybon Watkins of Springfield, his daughter: Courtney Watkins of Atlanta, GA, his devoted sister-in-law: Consuelo Claybon of Goodlettsville, his sister-in-law: Tiffany Gardner of Arlington, and by many aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins, and many devoted friends.
