William Henry Stevens Jr. 86 (Bill) of Greenbrier passed away on Monday August 31, 2020. He is survived by his wife of 65 years Amelia Stevens, children Gerry Stevens, Sara Griffin (Jim) Lola Pratt (Mark) Lynda Curry & grandchildren.
Bill was born June 25, 1934 in Chattanooga, TN. He was a veteran of the Korean War where he served as a U.S. Army paratrooper and was later stationed in Fort Bragg NC.
Bill retired from the Tennessean Newspaper in 1996 after 31 years, where he worked in building maintenance. He originally worked in the Composing Room as a typesetter, until technology changed to computerized type. He was known as “Mr. Fix It” and had a reputation for any kind of home repair.
Bill is survived by his wife of 65 years, Amelia Stevens of Chattanooga, TN. They previously lived in Smyrna, where he had a successful handyman business and moved to Greenbrier in 1982. He was a member of Coopertown Men’s Club and Mt. Zion Methodist Church.
Bill was known as POP to his adoring grandchildren and loved spending time with them: Ryan Griffin (Emily), Steven Griffin, Henry Griffin, Evan Curry, Erin Curry, Jeremy Pratt, Rachael Pratt, Dale Atnip, Melanie Dempsey & Great Granddaughter Ava Atnip.
He was preceded in death by his daughter Amelia LeNette Stevens, Father William Henry Stevens, mother Hazel Inez Stevens and five siblings.
Visitation will be held on Sunday September 6 from 12-2pm at the Robertson County Funeral Home. The funeral Service will follow at 2pm. He will be buried at the Mt. Zion Church Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers donations can be made to St. Jude Children's Hospital or Mt. Zion United Methodist Church.
