Wilburn Paul Wilkins, 89, of the Hopewell community in Springfield, passed away on Sunday January 10, 2021 at Vanderbilt Medical Center. Funeral services will be conducted Thursday January 14th at 1:00 p.m. in the Oakhurst Chapel of the Robertson County Funeral Home with Reverend Jim Woodard officiating. Interment will follow in the Hopewell Cemetery with Roger Turns, Barry Turns, Andy Mason, Mike Cobb, Jeff Doss, and Sam Andavazo serving as pallbearers. Honorary pallbearers will be Geoff Wilkins, Dwayne Wilkins, Steve Wilkins, Mike Wilkins, and Don Wilkins. The family will receive friends on Thursday from 10:00 a.m. until service time at the funeral home.
Mr. Wilkins was born April 2, 1931 in Robertson County to the late Ellis and Glenna Prince Wilkins. He was a graduate of Springfield High School Class of 1949. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army. He served during the Korean Conflict and was the recipient of the National Defense Medal, the Efficiency Honor Fedelity Medal, and was a member of the Sons of the American Revolution. Mr. Wilkins was a member of Hopewell Baptist Church where he was a Deacon and former church treasurer. He loved working crossword puzzles, gardening, and animals.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife: Betty Doss Wilkins, and by his brothers: Ellis Wilkins, Jr., Raymond “Doug” Wilkins, Leroy Wilkins, and James R. Wilkins. Mr. Wilkins is survived by son and daughter-in-law: Randy and Kathie Wilkins of Springfield, by his daughter and son-in-law: Brenda and David Porter of Springfield, and by his grandchildren: Jason Wilkins, Joseph Wilkins, Benjamin Wilkins, and Liz Wilkins.
