Thelma Ruth Dudney, 100, of Springfield, passed away on Tuesday March 16, 2021 at Kirby Pines Manor in Memphis, Tennessee. Graveside services will be conducted Monday March 22nd at 1:00 p.m. in the Springfield Memorial Gardens with Brother Joe Rushing officiating. There will be no visitation prior to the graveside service.
Mrs. Dudney was born November 10, 1920 in Sneedville, Tennessee to the late Charles Milford and Maggie Thompson Bush. She attended Lincoln Memorial University for two years and received a Bachelor of Science Degree from Radford College, Women Division of Virginia Tech. She received a Master of Arts Degree from George Peabody College in Nashville. Mrs. Dudney was a retired teacher of the Metro Nashville Public Schools and was a member of Main Street Church of Christ in Springfield.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband: John A. Dudney, by her sister: Norma Christine Shackleford, by her brother: Charles Leslie Bush, and by her nephews: Sammy Derick Cheek and Steven Shackleford. Mrs. Dudney is survived by her sisters: Marie Neff of Ewing, VA, Winnie Cash of Madison Heights, VA, Jewell Cheek of Chatham, IL, and Joyce Mullins of Chatham IL, by her nieces: Susan Hevey, Valerie Cash, Mona Roberts, Judith Williams, Gayla McIntire, Ginger Gardiner, and Cindy McGarigle, and by her nephews: Larry Neff and Barry Shackleford.
The family wishes to thank Mrs. Dudney’s caregivers, in Springfield, while she was able to remain at her home and the staff of Kirby Pines Manor, in Memphis, for their excellent care and concern for her.
