Sylvia Arlene (Draughon) Gainous

Sylvia Arlene Gainous, 89, of Greenbrier, passed from this life on Sunday November 20, 2022, at NHC Healthcare in Hendersonville. Funeral services will be conducted Saturday November 26th at 1:00 p.m. in the Oakhurst Chapel of the Robertson County Funeral Home with Brother Jeff Crabtree and Brother Brent Crabtree officiating. Interment will follow in Springfield Memorial Gardens with Michael “Mikey” Sanders, Troy Reid, Tyler Reid, Tom Baldwin, Andrew Colón, Nick Mangrum, and Alex Vahl serving as pallbearers. The family will receive friends on Friday from 3:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. and on Saturday from 12 noon until service time at the funeral home.

Mrs. Gainous was born June 20, 1933, in Springfield, to the late Robert and Nancy Belle Poole Draughon. She was a homemaker, a member of First Baptist Church in Ridgetop, and worked many years in the cafeteria at Watauga Elementary School in Ridgetop. She always loved the children and wanted to make sure each of them had plenty to eat. Mrs. Gainous loved bird watching, butterflies, and could grow and nurture any flower into a thing of beauty. Everyone that knew her loved her cooking, especially her chicken and dumplings, banana pudding, and chocolate pies. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband: Jesse Newton Gainous.

Mrs. Gainous is survived by her son and daughter-in-law: James and Regina Gainous of Greenbrier, by her daughter and son-in-law: Julia Arlene and Kenneth Warren of Ridgetop, by her grandchildren: Christy Baldwin, Jamie Reid, Shea Sanders, and Michael “Mikey” Sanders, by her 5 great grandchildren, by her 1 great great grandchild, and by her sisters and brother-in-law: Bobbie Merville of Nashville, Anita and George Crabtree of Franklin, KY.
