Sue Fuqua Obituary

Sue Fuqua of Greenbrier, Tennessee, left her earthly home on Tuesday February 4, 2025.  She was preceded in death by her husband, Carl L. Fuqua, her brother, Dennis Ellis, and her mother, Elsie Ford Ellis.

Sue was born in Cross Plains, Tennessee, on September 9, 1935, and as a young girl moved with her family to East Nashville where she grew up and graduated from Hume Fogg High School in 1953.  She met her future husband, Carl, at their mutual employer (Randolph and Rice), and after a whirlwind courtship, they married on December 4, 1953. In 1955, they purchased property and moved to Robertson County.  A strong person of faith, Sue was an active member of Bethel Baptist Church in Greenbrier for over sixty years where at various times she taught Sunday School, coordinated senior adult activities, participated in committees, led Wednesday night children’s mission groups, and sang in the choir.  For over ten years, Sue taught pre-school at Bethel’s Mother’s Day Out program.  Sue was also an active member of the Red Hats and the General Jethro Sumner Chapter of the DAR. For twelve years, Sue volunteered at NorthCrest Medical Center donating as many as 1000 hours per year. An enthusiastic traveler, Sue loved to read and attend live theater performances.  She adored her grandchildren, who called her MeMy, and cared for them often during their younger years, spoiling them with treats, supporting their projects, and attending sports and school activities.

Sue is survived by her four children -- Vickie Wright (Harold), Carla Bellenfant (Jim), Paul Fuqua (Robin), and Jon Fuqua (Danna); her grandchildren –Dayne Wright (Jamie), Patrick Wright (Courtney), Cliff Burr, Andy Pitt (Erica), Lacye Krisle (Dale), Leighton Fuqua (Alyssa), Grace Meadows (Caleb) Ashley Baker (Ian), Nick Bellenfant, and Ethan (Claire) Fuqua; great-grandchildren – Carter, Lyla, Nolen, and Dawson Wright; Grayson and Olivia Wright; Bella Clinard; Reagan and Avery Krisle; Haddon, Everett, and Gabriel Fuqua; Aidan, Olivia, and Daisy Meadows; and Evie and Ollie Baker. She is also survived by her sister, Diane Kurzrock (Karl).

Sue was a wonderful and caring daughter, wife, mother, sister, mother-in-law, grandmother, great-grandmother, aunt, and friend.  She poured her life into her faith and family, and she will be greatly missed by all.

Funeral services will be conducted Saturday, February 8th, at 12:00 noon at the Bethel Baptist Church in Greenbrier with Reverend Brandon Pugh and Brother Jon Fuqua officiating. Interment will follow in the Mayes Cemetery with Dayne Wright, Patrick Wright, Cliff Burr, Andy Pitt, Leighton Fuqua, Nick Bellenfant, and Ethan Fuqua serving as pallbearers.
