Stephen "Buckwheat" Yates

Stephen Glenn “Buckwheat” Yates, 52, of Springfield, passed away on Saturday September 11, 2021, at his home. Funeral services will be conducted Thursday September 16th at 1:00 p.m. in the Oakhurst Chapel of the Robertson County Funeral Home. Interment will follow in Springfield Memorial Gardens with Michael Yates, Randall Yates, Jeffery Yates, Randy McEwing, Timmy Groves, and Jermey Harris serving as pallbearers. The family will receive friends on Wednesday from 4:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. and on Thursday from 10:00 a.m. until service time at the funeral home.

Buckwheat was born November 6, 1968, in Springfield. He worked as a tree cutter. Buckwheat enjoyed going to drag races and tractor pulls. He was preceded in death by his brothers: Robert “Pubbie” Yates and James “Mudd” Yates, and by his nephew: Jonathan “J.J.” Yates.

Buckwheat is survived by his parents: Lonnie and Helen Mooneyhan Yates of Springfield, by his brothers: Terry “Red” Yates, Randall “Nan” Yates, Jeffery “Hammer” Yates, and Michael “J.J.” Yates all of Springfield, and by his sisters: Marcie Harris, Joyce Long, Cynthia “Boo” Gutierrez all of Springfield, and Janeille Reba Brooks of Vallejo, CA.
