Shirley June Hammons, 79, of Springfield, passed from this life on Saturday August 26, 2023, at her home. Funeral services will be conducted Wednesday August 30th at 2:00 p.m. in the Oakhurst Chapel of the Robertson County Funeral Home with Brother Johnny Trail and Brother Joe Rushing officiating. Interment will follow in the Bellwood Cemetery in Adams with Trenton Bibee, Grayson Bibee, Weston Bibee, Jonathan Duke, Lathan Duke, Dustin Lemons, Trystan Gibson, and Preston Gibson serving as pallbearers. Walker Bibee will serve as an honorary pallbearer. The family will receive friends on Tuesday from 4:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. and on Wednesday from 12 noon until service time at the funeral home.
Ms. Shirley was born February 2, 1944, in Louisville, KY, to the late Fred and Maxie Arlene Holman Norris. She was a graduate of Cumberland County High School Class of 1963 and then went on to receive her Associate’s degree from Bethel College. She was a retired preschool teacher from Growing Tree Preschool at the White House Church of Christ, and was a member of Hillcrest Church of Church in Springfield. Ms. Shirley loved gardening, cooking, sewing, boating, fishing, and mowing her lawn. She had a great love for children and spoiling them, especially her grand and great grandchildren.
Ms. Shirley is survived by her husband, Richie Hammons, whom she has been married to for 57 and half years, by her daughter and son-in-law: Julie and Tracy Bibee of Springfield, by her grandchildren: Trenton (Taylor) Bibee, Neely (Jonathan) Duke, Morganne Mackennzie (Dustin) Lemons, Grayson (Courtney Cannon) Bibee, and Weston (Ella Kiggans) Bibee, and by her great grandchildren: Lathan Duke, Hadilynne Duke, Molly Lemons, and Walker Bibee.
