Shelby Brooksher Obituary

Shelby Jean Brooksher, age 87, passed away on February 21, 2026.  She was born July 6, 1938, in Guthrie, Kentucky, in her grandparents’ home.  She married her husband, Tony, in December of 1957 and they lived in Adams for most of their lives.  It was in this community that she poured her heart and soul.

For 46 years, she served as secretary at Jo Byrns High School. But to say she was “just the secretary” would never be enough. She was a steady presence, a listening ear, and often a second mother to generations of students. She knew their names, their stories, and their struggles — and she loved every child who walked those halls as if they were her own.

If you knew her, you loved her — and more importantly, you knew you were loved by her. Her life was a reflection of her deep faith. She shared her love of music by faithfully playing the piano at Adams United Methodist Church and later at Mt. Carmel United Methodist Church every Sunday for many years. She also played for countless weddings and funerals giving families comfort and joy through her music during some of life’s most meaningful moments. Some of her happiest memories were the times she played with the Red River Boys, filling rooms with music and laughter.

She loved anything related to Kentucky — especially when it came to Kentucky basketball. She followed every game with passion, and nothing delighted her more than a Wildcat victory over the Vols. Her excitement was contagious and watching a game with her was always an experience.

The legacy she leaves is one of kindness, devotion, laughter, and steadfast love.

Above all, she will be remembered for her unwavering faith, her servant’s heart, and her deep love for her family — especially her grandchildren and great-grandchildren, who were the light of her life. She never missed an opportunity to show up, cheer loudest, or tell them how proud she was. The connections she shared with those around her will never be forgotten.   She leaves behind her family and friends who will miss her deeply and cherish the memories she gave them.

She is proceeded in death by her parents, Robert and Frances Adkins Griffin, her husband, Tony Brooksher, and her daughter, Tina Douglas.

She is survived by her daughter, Tamela Jo Head (Terry), Son-In-Law, Troy Douglas, Grandchildren, Kami Spurlock (Steve), Clint Head (Lauren), Clay Head (Annie), Katie Ward (TJ), Cole Head (Rachel), Megan Waddey (Robert), and Aaron Douglas.  Great-grandchildren, Abby Douglas; Ava and Ali Spurlock; Sophie, Griffin, and Owen Head; Elliott, Hudson and Grace Head; Campbell, Jackson, and Shelby Jo Ward; and Harrison Head.

Funeral services will be conducted Wednesday February 25th at 3:00 p.m. at Mt. Carmel United Methodist Church in Clarksville, with Pastor Josh Newberry officiating. Interment will follow in the Bellwood Cemetery, in Adams, with Clint Head, Clay Head, Cole Head, Aaron Douglas, Steve Spurlock, and TJ Ward serving as pallbearers. Honorary Pallbearers will be Terry Head and Troy Douglas. The family will receive friends on Tuesday from 4:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. at the Robertson County Funeral Home and on Wednesday from 1:00 p.m. until service time at the Mt. Carmel United Methodist Church.
