Sharon George Obituary

Sharon Yvonne Thomas George, 73, of Springfield, went to be with the Lord at 7:00 a.m. on Tuesday morning, November 23, 2021, with her husband, Walter George, standing by her side. Sharon was born April 6, 1948, in Davidson County to the late James Erwin and Nina Marie Beatty Thomas of Springfield. Before moving to Springfield, the Thomas family lived in Hendersonville for several years where Sharon attended school and graduated from Hendersonville High School in 1966. She and Walter were married on Saturday February 11, 1967, and moved immediately to Belton, TX while Walter was serving in the U.S. Army at Fort Hood, TX. After being discharged from the military service, they moved to Springfield in July of 1969 where Walter worked at WDBL Radio Station, and Sharon worked at Sullivan’s Department Store, and later at CEI (Johnson Electric). She was a wonderful homemaker, having won the Betty Crocker Homemaker of Year award in her senior year of high school. Sharon was an outstanding cook and she specialized in making desserts. She loved her family and friends and took excellent care of all of them. Sharon faithfully attended Calvary Pentecostal Church for 54 years, where she was a charter member, led the singing, and served as treasurer of the church for many years.

Sharon is survived by her husband of 54 years, Walter Lee George, of Springfield, by her son: Walter Thomas George and her grandson, Walter Davis George, both of Cordova, by her brother, Mark Thomas, of Nashville, by her sisters, Debbie Binkley and husband Larry, of Springfield, and Rebekah Spann and husband Ken of Lebanon. Many other family members, and a host of friends also survive.

Funeral services will be conducted Monday November 29th at 11:00 a.m. in the Oakhurst Chapel of the Robertson County Funeral Home with Pastor Mark Thomas officiating. Interment will be in the Springfield Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends on Sunday November 28th from 2:00 p.m. until 5:00 p.m. and on Monday from 10:00 a.m. until service time at the funeral home.
