Paul Jennings Tabor of Nashville and formerly of Springfield, went to be with Jesus on Sunday November 24, 2019 at the age of 91. He was born at home on September 4, 1928 in Brotherton, TN, the son of the late Charles Dewey “CD” and Nellie Mae Castleman Tabor.
He was a high school graduate from Harrison Chilhowee Baptist Academy in 1946, a college graduate from Cumberland University in Lebanon in 1950, was ordained as a pastor in 1950, and graduated from Southern Baptist Theological Seminary in 1957. He married Nancy Jean Krisle on April 20, 1951 and over the next 15 years they were blessed to have 6 children.
He began pastoring Southern Baptist churches in 1950 and continued pastoring and working with churches until 2007. He pastored churches in Bell Buckle, Hokes Bluff, AL, Livingston, Tullahoma, Lawrenceburg, Holly Pond, AL, and Greenbrier. He was the Director of Missions for Simpson County Kentucky Baptist Association, and preached at many other churches throughout the years.
He had a true calling to share the love of Jesus with everyone he encountered. He was a great pastor, ministering compassionately to people during difficult times of illnesses, tragedies, and deaths. Additionally, he ministered well in happier times for weddings, births, baptisms, and family celebrations. He was also very involved in community activities with the Kiwanis Club, Lions Club, Masons, and a local community theater group.
In retirement and the last years of his life, some of his favorite things to do were to work jigsaw puzzles and to play board games. He loved to listen to Gaither music and was faithful about reading his daily devotionals. He was a true fan of donuts and almost any candy or dessert. He had a great sense of humor and loved to tease and respond with one-line comebacks. He was very “literal” – a gift that all his children have inherited.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife: Nancy Krisle Tabor, and by his first-born child: Stephen “Steve” Jennings Tabor, and by his siblings: Charles Dewey Tabor, Jr., Juanita Tabor Utley, and H. Samuel Tabor. He is survived by his five birth children: his son: Mark Tabor and wife Connie of Lawrenceville, GA, daughters: Pat Dakunchak and husband Scott of Suwanee, GA, Nancy “Nan” Goins and husband Terry of Franklin, Paula and Bill Hall of Nashville, and Sherry Tabor of Hanceville, AL, by his “adopted” daughter: Lisa Hudson of Hanceville, AL, by his daughter-in-Law: Donnia Tabor- Hanson and her husband Bob of Blaine, by his brother, William Hershel “Bill” Tabor of Nashville; by his grandchildren: Cresta Tabor, Brett Tabor and wife Heather, Lauren Tabor, Ryan Tabor and wife Leslie, Jacob Goins, Hannah Goins, Graceanna Hall, and Faithlyn Hall, by his great grandchildren: Knox and Stephen Tabor, and by his step great grandchildren: Bobby and Alisha Sexton.
