Reverend Frank Leavell Obituary

Reverend Frank D. Leavell was born in Lafayette, KY on March 27, 1933 to the late Rueben and Pearly Leavell. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife: Polly Iris Leavell, his son: Larry Donnell Leavell, and by seven brothers and four sisters. Frank was a kind, gentle giant who was affectionally known to all as “Big Daddy”. He never met a stranger and loved making people smile.

Frank did farm work and was later employed by Brick-O-Block in Nashville, Barber Pontiac and then went on to work at Payne Chevrolet from where he retired as a technician in 2007 with 28 years of service.

Frank united with Keysburg Baptist Church in Keysburg, KY where he was a faithful member and served as an usher, a choir member, and a Deacon. In 1981, the Lord elevated Frank from the Deacon Board into the ministry. He was ordained at Keysburg Baptist Church on February 7, 1982. He later affiliated with Bell’s Chapel Missionary Baptist Church and assisted Pastor R.S. Stevenson. After the death of Pastor Stevenson, Reverend Frank Leavell was called to pastor Bell’s Chapel on the fourth Sunday in July of 1982. He served for 37 years at Bell’s Chapel and retired in 2018 but went on to serve as Pastor Emeritus until his death.

On Friday September 25, 2020, our beloved “Big Daddy” answered God’s call to come home for his eternal rest. He leaves to cherish his loving memory, four children: Frances Johnson, James (Fonzette) Leavell, Duncan (Annette) Leavell, and Karlen (Cleo) Johnson, his sister: Beatrice Davis of Lafayette, KY, 12 grandchildren: Tetric Johnson, Tameka Dotson, Eric Leavell, Jessica Lewis, Jeramie Leavell, Jasmine Cole, LsShonda Johnson, DeShawn Cole, Brandi Leavell, Chelsea Leavell, Kyndall Smith, and Krystan Mixon, devoted great grandchild: Kierra Leavell, 22 great grandchildren, 7 great great grandchildren, brothers and sisters in love: William (Kay) Johnson, Grady (Cerneal) Johnson, Delmus (JaTanya) Johnson, Bessie Leavell, Mattie Henderson, Lovie Johnson, Katie Majors, and Myrna Wilcox, special caregivers: Kisha “Tisha” Sneed, Jermaine Johnson, and DeLinda Bell, a host of nieces, nephews, relatives, and friends.
