Rev. Denny Burchett

Reverend Wallace Denny Burchett, age 93 of Springfield, passed away on Tuesday, September 28, 2021 at NorthCrest Medical Center surrounded by his family.

He was born September 19, 1928 in Pembroke, KY to the late Ewing Caldwell Burchett, Sr. and Irene Denny Burchett. He graduated from Pembroke High School and missed his high school graduation to begin service in the Air Force. He served as ariel photographer and was located in Japan. After discharge, he attended Austin Peay State University where he obtained a bachelor’s degree in education. He started his work career at Pembroke High School as a teacher and coach. He met his sweetheart, Barbara Bracey and they married May 30, 1954. In 1955 he was called to Ministry and was ordained at Pembroke Baptist Church in 1958. He attended the Southern Baptist Theological Seminary in Louisville, KY where he earned a master’s degree in divinity.

He served as a full-time Minister for 40 years in five Southern Baptist Churches located in northern Tennessee and southern Kentucky. Many he served as a teacher and/or principal in the local communities. Middleton Baptist Church, Middleton, KY; Walker Memorial Baptist Church, Franklin, TN; Pleasant Hill Baptist Church, Orlinda, TN; Trinity Baptist Church, Hopkinsville, KY; and New Barren Springs Church, New Barren Springs, KY. He and his wife retired in Springfield, TN where he continued to serve for several years, at different times, as interim pastor for Cross Roads Baptist Church, Springfield, TN and assistant interim pastor at Middleton Baptist Church, Middleton, KY.

He has attended and been a member of Springfield Baptist Church for several years.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Barbara Bracey Burchett; parents Ewing Caldwell Burchett, Sr. and Irene Denny Burchett; and brother Ewing Caldwell Burchett, Jr.

He is survived by his children, Anita (James) Marshall of Springfield, TN, Robert “Bubba” (Betty) Burchett of Clarksville, TN, and Lorri Burchett of Minneapolis, MN; grandchildren, Robert (BJ) Burchett, Mandy (Justin) Willson, Bracey (Phil) Thomas, Jamee Marshall; and Emilio Burchett, greatgrandchildren, Ellie Thomas, Kyler Willson, Kinsley Willson, Charlotte Thomas, and Josiah Thomas; sister-in-law, Wanda Burchett; and nieces and nephews, Wally  Burchett, Eddie (Theresia) Burchett, and James (Leslie) Burchett.

A Celebration of Life service will be held Friday, October 1, 2021, at 2:00 PM in the auditorium of Springfield Baptist Church with Dr. David Evans officiating. The family will receive friends at the church on Friday from 10 AM until the hour of service. Graveside services will be held at a later date for the family only in Pembroke, KY.
