R.L. Douglas Obituary

Raymond Lee “R.L.” Douglas, 72, of Springfield, passed from this life on Saturday March 18, 2023, at his home. Funeral services will be conducted Thursday March 23rd at 1:00 p.m. in the Oakhurst Chapel of the Robertson County Funeral Home with Howard Bradley officiating. Interment will follow in the Bethlehem Cemetery with Josh Wright, Kirt Brinkley, Darin Moore, Rodney Hoover, Jeremy Liggit, Beau Morris, Wade McCarroll, and Don Horton serving as pallbearers. Honorary pallbearers will be Tina Sorrells, Jim Ball, and R.L.’s former co-workers. The family will receive friends on Wednesday from 4:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. and on Thursday from 11:00 a.m. until service time at the funeral home.

R.L. was born March 31, 1950, in Springfield, to the late Robert Lee and Margie Stroud Douglas. He was a graduate of Jo Byrns High School and was of the Baptist faith. R.L. was the director of the Emergency Management Agency (EMA) in Robertson County for over 25 years. He retired from that position in 2019. R.L. was the go too person for many of the other agencies that operated within Robertson County when it came to citizen protection and wellbeing. He was a wealth of knowledge and was always a dependable resource for whatever was going on at the time. He accumulated many award and training certificates over the years and was always dedicated to his chosen career that he loved so much. In his spare time, R.L. enjoyed traveling, his animals, listening to his scanner, spending time with his family, and would always do anything that he could for anyone.

R.L. is survived by his wife: Diane Dennis Douglas of Springfield, by his son and daughter-in-law: Dennis and Jessica Spangler of Hartsville, by his brother and sisters-in-law: Teddy and Staci Douglas of Springfield, Janice McGhee of Greenbrier, Barbara (Wayne) Kirby of Springfield,  by his mother-in-law: Mildred Dennis of Springfield, by his grandchildren: Austin and Addysyn Spangler, by his nephews: John Michael Gilbert and wife Crystal, and Ryan Gilbert, by his niece: Leanna Kirby, by his great nephews: Wyatt Gilbert, Caleb Valazquez, and Christian Kirby, by his great nieces: Ocoee and Harley Gilbert, and by his dear friend: Tina Sorrells of Greenbrier.
