Nell Murphy Obituary

Ivy Nell Murphy, age 84, of Springfield passed away on Monday November 8, 2021. Nell was preceded in death by her husband, James Warren Murphy, son, James Richard Murphy, daughter, Laurie Nell Murphy and her parents Reverend Richard Nathan and Flora Dell Roe. Nell is survived by granddaughters, Marissa Chachra and Jamie Marvin, great-grandsons, James Chandler and Carter Paul Marvin, and great-granddaughter Lalia Miryn Chachra.

Born on January 30, 1937, she attended Nashville Business College and played on the girls’ basketball team. She was a member of Mt. Denson Cumberland Presbyterian Church for many years before moving her membership to Springfield First United Methodist Church. Nell was a successful real estate agent for several years in Robertson County and went on to open and operate Murphy Realty in Springfield for multiple decades. Prior to her real estate career, Nell worked for Security Federal Savings and Loan in Springfield, and for Dr.’s Traughber and Reed. Having served as a Chamber of Commerce Board Member early in her career, she was an active member of the community. Nell and her husband James enjoyed square dancing and traveling to Florida with friends.

There will be a graveside service at 10:00 a.m. on Monday November 15th in the Springfield Memorial Gardens with Tim Harris officiating. Pallbearers will be Michael Marvin, Vishesh Chachra, James Chandler Marvin, Clyde Richert, Joe Hart, Bruce Duffer, and Dr. Grant Bell. Larry Chatman will serve as an honorary pallbearer. The family will receive friends on Sunday November 14th from 1:00 p.m. until 4:00 p.m. at the Robertson County Funeral Home. There will be no visitation on Monday prior to the graveside service.

If so desired, memorial contributions can be made to the Robertson County Senior Citizens Center where her and James Warren frequently met up with friends during their retirement or Springfield First United Methodist Church.
