Nancy was born August 8, 1938, in Cookeville, to the late Harold Ray and Clara May Reed Bagwell. She was a graduate of Murfreesboro Central High School Class of 1956. She then went on to receive her bachelor’s degree from Middle Tennessee State University in 1960, and later received her master’s degree from Tennessee State University. Following college graduation, she moved to Springfield to work as a UT Home Extension agent and worked with the county 4-H clubs. After taking some time to stay home with her children, she went back to work as a dedicated elementary school teacher from 1975 until her retirement in 2001, having taught at Bransford, Cheatham Park, and Westside Elementary schools. Nancy enjoyed playing the piano and organ. Both she and her husband served in voluntary roles as music leaders at Mt. Denson Cumberland Presbyterian Church, where they were devoted members and Nancy was a member of the Cumberland Presbyterian Women. She was a member of the Short Story Club, the Music Study Club, and the former Robertson County Home Demonstration Club. Nancy enjoyed spending time with her family and friends and sending cards for just about every holiday on the calendar. She enjoyed traveling on family vacations, and both she and Joe also went on many trips as chaperones with the Springfield High School band, even after their children graduated. She loved leading the road trip songs. Nancy was a wonderful cook, and she enjoyed sewing and always had a great love for music.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of 52 years, Joseph Holt “Joe” Nicholson, Sr., and by her siblings: James Bagwell and Rayola Bagwell. Nancy is survived by her son and daughter-in-law: Joseph Holt, Jr and Karen Nicholson of Springfield, by her daughter and son-in-law: Clara Nicholson Bailey and Dr. Lamar Bailey of Collierville, by her grandchildren: Noah Nicholson, Mollie Nicholson, Matthew (Maya) Curtis, and David Curtis, by her great grandchildren: Brinkleigh and Brody Curtis, by her brother and sisters-in-law: Sam and Nancy Bagwell of Murfreesboro, and Libby Nicholson of Nashville.

If so desired, memorial contributions may be made to Mt. Denson Cumberland Presbyterian Church or to CASA of Robertson County. All donations can be sent c/o Robertson County Funeral Home.
