Mary Joe “Mama Joe” Carter Dorris, 88, of Greenbrier, passed from this life on Monday April 20, 2020. A private family graveside service will be conducted on Friday April 24th in the Springfield Memorial Gardens with Reverend Don Sensing officiating.
Mrs. Dorris was born January 3, 1932 in Springfield to the late Joe Henry and Polly Sanford Carter. She was a graduate of Greenbrier High School Class of 1949 and loved being a part of the 49’ers lady’s group of her graduating class. She was a homemaker and a lifelong member of Greenbrier United Methodist Church, where she was very active in the United Methodist Women’s ministry. Mrs. Dorris was a charter member of the Greenbrier Historical Society. She lived a life of faith to her Lord and her church, and she always treasured being involved in the lives of her family that she loved so much.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of 61 years: Charles “Charlie” Fate Dorris, and by her brother and sister-in-law: Judge Charles Carter and Vivian Baggett Carter. Mrs. Dorris is survived by her daughter and son-in-law: Charlotte and Terry Dorris of Greenbrier, by her son and daughter-in-law: Joe and Monica Dorris of Greenbrier, by her grandchildren: Rob Dorris and wife Margarete, Ken Dorris and wife Erica, Jody Dorris and wife Sarah, Blake Dorris and wife Skylar, by her great grandchildren: Luke, Kate, Heidi, and Wesley Dorris, by her dear friend: Dorothy Helen Elliott of Townsend, and by her brother-in-law and sister-in-law: Jimmy and Melba Dorris of Greenbrier.
