Martha Burr Jackson Wilks, 93, of Springfield, passed from this life on Monday November 2, 2020 at her home. Funeral services will be conducted Friday November 6th at 1:00 p.m. in the Oakhurst Chapel of the Robertson County Funeral Home with Reverend Dianne Coppock and Tim Harris officiating. Interment will follow in the Palestine Cemetery with Jackson Wilks, Gage Wilks, Tommy Wilks, Brent Tate, Neal Fisher, and T.C. Groves serving as pallbearers. The family will receive friends on Friday from 10:00 a.m. until service time at the funeral home.
Martha was born July 6, 1927 in Franklin, KY. She was a member of the DAR in Franklin, KY and was a member of Palestine United Methodist Church. Martha taught piano and oil painting for many years. She majored in music during college. The number of students that sat under her instruction was countless. She served as a former Music Director at Springfield First United Methodist Church for many years. She was currently playing piano at Palestine United Methodist Church, as she had for the past 30 years. Ms. Martha also played at different times of her life at Pleasant Hill Baptist Church, St. Michael’s and Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic churches, Mt. Denson Cumberland Presbyterian Church, as well as many other churches and events. In the past few years, it was a highlight of her week going and playing at Morningside of Springfield.
Martha was preceded in death by her husband: Albert Wilks, Jr., and her son: Jan Jackson Wilks. She is survived by her grandsons: Chris (Jennifer) Wilks and Norman (Ashley) Wilks both of Springfield, and by her great grandchildren: Jackson Wilks, Mackenzie Wilks, Gage Wilks, and Lacey Wilks.
