Martha Morris Obituary

Martha Louise Morris, nee Pensyl, the personification of grace departed this earthly life to her next journey on April 25, 2019 at the home she loved in Springfield, Tennessee.  She was born in Ross County in the Appalachian hills of southern Ohio on June 17, 1926.  Her parents Jesse Arthur Pensyl and Bertha Etta Setty Pensyl taught her courage, kindness, compassion, and spirituality.  Martha carried these attributes all of her life sharing them with not only her family, but everyone she met.  She possessed that old-fashioned pluck and grit that few can match.  It’s impossible to eulogize her in just a few words.  It would take a series of books to describe the influence she left behind.  You never had to wonder what she was thinking.  She would tell you what was on her mind in a very frank and precise manner.  She was candid and outspoken leaving children enamored and leaving adults lost for words.  She loved simple things, kittens, puppies, flowers, children, sunshine, blue skies, and Creation.  Her common greeting was giving you a hug.  If you canvased the population that felt that hug, it would fill a metropolis.  Those that knew her have been blessed.

Martha’s family was the most important treasure in her life.  She enjoyed their visits and receiving telephone calls from all of them.  As a child you felt protected, and as an adult you felt loved.  She is survived by her four children Marceille Hinkle of Phillipsburg, Ohio, Jerry L. Pearson of Chillicothe, Ohio, Alice Hallman (Phil) of Adairville, Kentucky, and Anna Marie Pearson of Springfield, Tennessee.  She challenged all of her children to be the best they could be.  Memaw was a grandmother, great-grandmother, and great-great-grandmother to many. She spread her love equally among all of them. Martha was preceded in death by her parents and her brothers Gilbert and Fred.

Martha loved her church family at the Adairville Church of Christ.  She enjoyed working with the greeting card ministry and taking part in Bible study.  She said their friendliness was unsurpassed and their pot-luck dinners fed her soul.
