Margie Ellis Holman, 89, of Springfield, passed from this life on Wednesday November 17, 2021, at her home surrounded by her family that she loved so much. Funeral services will be conducted Saturday November 27th at 11:00 a.m. at the Barren Plains Baptist Church with Reverend Melvin Felts and Reverend Andy King officiating. Interment will follow in Springfield Memorial Gardens with David Harden, Levi Harden, Airman John Holman Taylor, Jeremy Taylor, Allan Ellis, Tim Head, Steven Bates Head, and Jeremy Durham serving as pallbearers. Honorary pallbearer will be Jackson Durham. The family will receive friends on Friday November 26th from 4:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. at the Robertson County Funeral Home and on Saturday November 27th from 9:00 a.m. until service time at the Barren Plains Baptist Church.
Mrs. Holman was born January 4, 1932, in Springfield, to the late Jesse and Annie Bell Reynolds Ellis. She was a graduate of Springfield High School Class of 1949. As a young teenager, she worked as a waitress at the Goody Eat Shop and met her future husband. After high school graduation she worked for several years at National Life & Casualty Insurance Co. in Nashville. She also worked many years as the office manager for Wells Pet Food, which is now Delight Products. Mrs. Holman was a member of the Ladies Auxiliary of the Springfield Gideons and was a longtime member of Barren Plains Baptist Church, where over the years she taught in all age groups of Sunday School, was a former WMU director, and sang in the church choir. She loved sewing, canning, working on family genealogy, keeping up with family and friends on Facebook, and baking goodies for her church members and friends that were unable to leave their homes very often. Mrs. Holman loved all her family, especially her grandchildren and great grandchildren. She was an excellent cook and always looked forward to hosting big family gatherings and weekly Sunday lunches.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of 66 years: George Russell Holman, and by her brothers: James Boyd Ellis and William Ellis. Mrs. Holman is survived by her daughters and son-in-law: Judy Holman of Springfield, Debby and Allan Ellis of Springfield, by her grandchildren: David Harden and wife Amy, Bethany Taylor and husband Jeremy, Emily Ellis-Head and husband Tim, and Dr. Jessica Ellis Durham and husband Jeremy, by her great grandchildren: Lynleigh Taylor, Neylee Harden, Airman John Holman Taylor, Levi Harden, Steven Bates Head, Jordan Head, and Jackson Durham, by her sister: Mildred Rusk of Springfield, by her brother and sister-in-law: Aubrey and Faye Ellis of Greenbrier, and by her nieces, nephews, cousins, church family, and friends.
The family wishes to express their appreciation to the nurses and staff at NHC Springfield and long-time caregiver, Rita Warren for the wonderful care and love given to Margie.
