Mac Elliott Baggett, Sr. passed away peacefully at his home on June 11, 2026.

Mac lived life exactly the way he wanted to. Together, he and his wife, Evelyn, spent decades building a family, a livelihood, and a foundation. Beginning in the early 1970s, Mac devoted much of his life to agriculture, working hard to create opportunities not only for himself but for those who would follow. Through years of dedication and perseverance, Mac reached a point in his early 50s where he was able to step away from the daily demands of work and enjoy the life he had spent years building.

Those who knew him understood that the years he spent enjoying life were earned through decades of hard work, risk-taking, determination, and perseverance that came first. Mac worked hard, achieved success on his own terms, and ultimately earned the right to enjoy the life he had spent years building.

And enjoy it he did!

For more than two decades, Mac embraced life to the fullest. He loved to travel, entertain friends, attend gatherings, tell stories, and make memories. If there was a trip to take, a party to attend, or a good time to have, chances are Mac was already there, or on the way. He believed life was meant to be enjoyed and rarely passed up an opportunity to do just that.

Mac often told Mac Jr. and his friends, "Boys, we may work hard, but we're going to play hard too." It was more than a saying—it was a philosophy he genuinely lived by.

Even during those years of travel, friendships, and good times, Mac still enjoyed keeping up with what he had started. He loved seeing the family operation continue to expand and thrive and always enjoyed hearing about the latest projects, challenges, and successes. That is, of course, when he wasn't off somewhere having a good time.

Mac was known for his outgoing personality, quick wit, and love of conversation. If you spent much time around him, chances are you heard one of his many stories—often more than once. His sharp sense of humor and trademark sarcasm left people either laughing, shaking their heads, or wondering what in the world he would say next. He never met a stranger and was never at a loss for words—never.

Mac was named an Honorary Brother of Alpha Gamma Rho in 2003, appointed Colonel Aide-de-Camp by Governor Phil Bredesen of the State of Tennessee in 2006 and presented the National Leadership Award by the National Republican Congressional Committee in 2006.

Mac lived life on his own terms. Those who knew him will remember his stories, his laughter, his friendships, and his ability to make an ordinary day more interesting. He leaves behind a legacy built not only through hard work, but through a well enjoyed life. 

He was preceded in death by his parents, Eugene and Mildred Baggett; his brothers, Robert Henry “Bob” Baggett and Jackie Sneed “Jack” Baggett; and many lifelong friends whom he often spoke about and remembered fondly.

He is survived by his wife of 52 years, Evelyn Binkley Baggett; his son, Mac Jr. (Beth); his daughter, Brittney Baggett; his granddaughters, Ragan Mackenzie, Katie Beth, and Sadie Lee; his sisters, Laverda (Lealand) Smiley of Greenbrier and Sally  (Wayne) Watkins of Montgomery, AL; his brother, Jim (Jean) Baggett of Adams, and many nieces, nephews, cousins, friends, and acquaintances.

The funeral service will be officiated by Mayor Billy Vogle and lifelong friend Eddie Bellar.  Serving as pallbearers are Sterling Edwards, Bradley Edwards, Donnie Edwards, Kenneth Foster, John Johnston, Royce Holman, Ricky Holman, Roger Holman, Charles Davis, Tom Byrum, David Hayes, Phil Baggett, Josh Smith, Steve Artz, Lee Borthick, Robert Sloan, Brent Duffer, Joe Seeley, Matthew Woodside, and Eddie Bellar 

The family wishes to recognize the following dear friends as honorary pallbearers, honoring their lasting friendship and memory: Billy Carter, Charlie “Tar” Winn, Richard “Snooky” Covington, and Jack Wood.
