Richard Lawrence Cofer, 85, of Springfield, passed away on Thursday February 27, 2020 at his home. Memorial services will be conducted Saturday March 7th at 1:00 p.m. in the Oakhurst Chapel of the Robertson County Funeral Home with Brother Martin Babb officiating. The family will receive friends on Saturday from 10:00 a.m. until service time at the funeral home.
Mr. Cofer was born September 15, 1934 in Robertson County to the late Joseph Richard and Nannie Leota Lawrence Cofer. He was a graduate of Springfield High School Class of 1952, where he was Vice President of his senior class and was an outstanding football player for the Yellow Jackets. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army Reserves. Mr. Cofer was a member of Springfield Baptist Church, where he served as an Usher, and was a charter member of the Springfield Civitan Club. He was the co-owner of the former Tennessee Lighting and Appliance in Springfield. He retired from Hollingsworth Oil Company as a route sales collector. Mr. Cofer enjoyed football, baseball, youth sports, fishing, and was an avid Springfield Yellow Jackets fan.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his sister: Louise Cofer Poole. Mr. Cofer is survived by his wife of 59 years: Dianne Roe Cofer of Springfield, by his son: Charles Howard Cofer, by his grandchildren: Robert Barry Brown II, Camille Cofer, and John Ross Cofer, and by his nephew: Jerry (Susie) Poole of Atlanta, GA.
