To know Dr. Joyce Jarrett Hargrove was to know admiration. If you were to look it up in the dictionary you will find her face. She never met a stranger. She was born December 3, 1947 in Lebanon, Tennessee to the late Harrison McKinley and Alberta Cloud Jarrett.
At an early age, she professed her love for Christ. She was a member of First Missionary Baptist Church.
Joyce graduated from Bransford High School in 1965. She matriculated to Tennessee State University, while working on her degree in Social Work, she obtained a license as a Practical Nurse. She continued her education receiving her Masters in Social Work and Doctorate in Education.
In August 1981, she was united in holy matrimony to the late David Lee Hargrove. To this union, one daughter was born, Gabrielle Leah Hargrove-Owens.
Prior to beginning her teaching career, she worked at several hospitals in Ohio, Arkansas, Texas and Tennessee as a social worker. To continue her love of enlightening people, she taught at Austin Peay State University and Highland Crest College until her passing.
She was an active member of the Bransford High School Alumni Association and Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority Inc. She was an avid fan of the NBA.
Dr. Joyce departed this earth on January 25, 2017. Seven siblings preceded her in death.
She leaves to cherish her memory, a loving and devoted daughter, Gabrielle Hargrove-Owens; a son-in-law, Samuel Owens; two grandchildren, David and Lailah Owens; two brothers, Henry Jarrett and Reverend John Jarrett, both of Nashville, TN; sister-in-law, Josie Jarrett of Springfield, TN and Ervina Jarrett of Nashville, TN; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
