Joe Alvin Gainous, 85, of Adams, passed away on Sunday May 2, 2021 at the Tennessee State Veterans Home in Clarksville. Graveside services will be conducted Wednesday May 5th at 2:00 p.m. in the Bellwood Cemetery in Adams with Brother Jimmy Chapman and Billy Vogle officiating. Pallbearers will be Jason Newberry, Joey Newberry, Kyle Todd, Adam Ellithorpe, Austen Mussman, Skip Johnson, and Phillip Brown. There will be no visitation prior to the graveside service on Wednesday.
Mr. Gainous was born January 1, 1936 in Logan County, Kentucky to the late Tolley Newton and Jessie Geneva Hardaway Gainous. He was a retired farmer and a member of Oak Grove Baptist Church. He was a veteran of the U.S. Air Force, having served during the Korean Conflict. Mr. Gainous was a graduate of the Auto Diesel College in Nashville. He loved raising sheep and doing custom rolled hay. In addition to his parents, Mr. Gainous was preceded in death by his wife: Wilmoth Allene Duffer Gainous and by his brother: Fred Gainous.
Mr. Gainous is survived by his daughters: Vickie Gainous Newberry and husband Horace, of Cedar Hill, Amy Jo Gainous Todd of Adams, by his son: Terry Gainous of Adams, by his brother and sister-in-law: Jesse and Sylvia Gainous of Greenbrier, by his sisters: Margaret Sowell of Auburn, KY and Mamie Hester of Springfield, by his grandchildren: Jason (Julie) Newberry, Joey (Emily) Newberry, Ashley (Adam) Ellithorpe, Kyle Todd, and Katlynn Gainous, and by his great grandchildren: Sarah (Austen) Mussmann, Abby Allene Newberry , Kennedy Ann Newberry, Eric Lambert, Makenzie, Ashton, and Levi Ellithorpe.
