Jimmy F. Dorris, 88, of Greenbrier, passed from this life on Friday January 12, 2024, at his home that he was also born in. Funeral services will be conducted Saturday January 20th at 1:00 p.m. at the Greenbrier United Methodist Church with Dr. Jason Wilkerson officiating. Interment will follow in Springfield Memorial Gardens with Dale Krisle, Ross Pendergrass, Austin Pendergrass, Tyler Pendergrass, Zach Reasoner, Jeremy Hunter, Bart Krisle, and Barry Pendergrass serving as pallbearers. Honorary pallbearers will be Ivan Bell, David Williams, and Will Ed Osborne. The family will receive friends on Saturday January 20th from 10:00 a.m. until service time at the Greenbrier United Methodist Church.
Mr. Jimmy was born February 12, 1935, in Greenbrier, to the late William Smith and Myrtle Hackney Dorris. He was a graduate of Greenbrier High School Class of 1953, and was a lifelong member of Greenbrier United Methodist Church, where he enjoyed being a part of the JOY group. Mr. Jimmy was a retired mail carrier for the U.S. Postal Service, but his love was farming, and he enjoyed spending his lifetime being on his farm, milking cows, raising tobacco, and doing everything that a farmer does. He was a member of the ASCS Board of Directors for forty years, and he loved playing dominos. In addition to working on his farm, the highlight of his life was spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren and great grandchildren. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his siblings: Willa Ann O’Rear, Dorothy Clinard, Reba Matthews, William Smith Dorris, Jr., Charlie F. Dorris, and Mac Dorris.
Mr. Jimmy is survived by his wife, Melba Moulton Dorris, whom he would be married to for 65 years in August of this year, by his daughters and sons-in-law: Kim and Bart Krisle of Greenbrier, and Kelly and Barry Pendergrass of Greenbrier, by his grandchildren: Dale (Lacye) Krisle, Ross (Danielle) Pendergrass, Joanna (Zach) Reasoner, Austin Pendergrass, Tyler (Shelbi) Pendergrass, and Jamie Leigh (Jeremy) Hunter, and by 8 great grandchildren.
