Jimmy Cook, 87, of Springfield, passed away on Tuesday June 27, 2023, at his home. Funeral services will be conducted Saturday July 1st at 1:00 p.m. at the Mt. Carmel Baptist Church with Pastor Russ Noss officiating. Interment will follow in Mt. Carmel Cemetery with Brandon Smith, Troy Smith, Zachary Spicer, Peyton Smith, Tom Bell, Eddie Dickens, Zane Spicer, and Dicki Eskew serving as pallbearers. Honorary pallbearers will be Colton Shivers, Neyland Smith, Tyler Spicer, Hydden Smith, and Lily Shivers. The family will receive friends at the Mt. Carmel Baptist Church on Friday from 3:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. and on Saturday from 11:00 a.m. until service time.
Mr. Jimmy was born January 18, 1936, in Springfield, to the late James Henry and Frances Wilson Cook. He was a graduate of East Robertson High School Class of 1953, a member of Future Farmers of America (FFA), a retired truck driver with Humbolt Express, a lifelong farmer, and was a member of Mt. Carmel Baptist Church. Mr. Jimmy enjoyed camping, boating, jet skiing, and hunting.
Mr. Jimmy is survived by his wife, Jean Swearingen Cook, whom he would be married to for 69 years in July of this year, by his daughters: Debbie Cook Bell and husband Tom of Springfield and Cheryl Cook and husband Eddie Dickens of Springfield, by his sister: Barbara Wood of Springfield, by his grandchildren: Brandon (Denise Stuard) Smith, Tiffany (Zane) Spicer, Troy (Brandi) Smith, and Tara Shivers, by his great grandchildren: Peyton Smith, Neyland Smith, Zachary Spicer, Tyler Spicer, Hyddan Smith, Lily Shivers, and Colton Shivers, and by his pet goose: Betsy and his cat: Precious.
