James Milton Ratzer, Sr., 87, of Greenbrier, passed away on Monday March 20, 2023, at the White House Health Care Center. Graveside services will be conducted Saturday March 25th at 12 noon in the Springfield Memorial Gardens with Pastor Mike Duff officiating. Family and friends will serve as pallbearers. Honorary pallbearers will be Don Walker, Tom Farmer, Joe Eden, and Dale Story. There will be no visitation prior to the graveside service. It is asked that everyone please wear a mask when speaking with the family at the graveside service.
Mr. Ratzer was born August 3, 1935, in Alpena, WV, to the late Theodore R. and Versha O. Dean Ratzer. He was a graduate of Harman High School in WV, and was a veteran of the U.S. Army, having served as a Paratrooper during the Korean War. Mr. Ratzer worked for EUSCO in White House for 25 years, and then retired as a hydraulic mechanic with CEMC. He attended Victory Free Will Baptist Church. Mr. Ratzer enjoyed watching NASCAR, working on cars with his grandson, going to Larry’s for breakfast, and spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by former wife, mother of his children, and friend: Martha Ratzer, by his siblings: Jack Ratzer, George Ratzer, Alice Dunlop, and Kathy “Nellie” Ammons, and by his special friend: Irene Martin
Mr. Ratzer is survived by his daughter and son-in-law: Kathy and Kent Evetts of Greenbrier, by his son and daughter-in-law: Jimmy and Leslie Ratzer of Springfield, by his grandchildren: Kaila Jade Ratzer and Elijah Kade Evetts, by his brother: John Ratzer of Marietta, OH, by his sister: Margaret White of Prospect, PA, and by his brothers-in-law: Jim Dunlop of Maryland, and Larry Ammons of Ohio.
