Claude Gene Barbee, 85, of Springfield, died Saturday November 25, 2017 at Springfield Heights Assisted Living. Funeral services will be conducted Tuesday November 28th at 2:00 p.m. in the Oakhurst Chapel of the Robertson County Funeral Home with Brother Joe Rushing and Brother Barry Thorneberry officiating. Interment will follow in Elmwood Cemetery with Trey Barbee, Todd Barbee, Justin Robertson, Conald Wayne Robertson, Jr., Lester Barbee, Bob Barbee, and Jeff Barbee serving as pallbearers. Honorary pallbearers will be Joe Mason and Angel Starks. The family will receive friends on Tuesday from 10:00 a.m. until service time at the funeral home.
Mr. Barbee was born December 15, 1931 in Robertson County to the late Claude Anderson and Ailene Elmore Barbee. He was a retired farmer and owner/operator of Barbee Implement Company. Many people are familiar with the "tractor on the pole" at Hwy 431 N in Springfield, which was placed there by Mr. Barbee. He was a member of the Main Street Church of Christ, where he served as a deacon for many years. Mr. Barbee was a former president of the Robertson County PTA, and his favorite hobby was flying his airplane. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his siblings: Nona Faye Burns, Harold Anderson, Wilber, Wayne, and James Austin Barbee.
Mr. Barbee is survived by his wife of 66 years: Elsie Gardner Barbee of Springfield, sons and daughters: C.G. and Wynne Ann Barbee of Springfield, Andrew Clark and Jeannie Barbee of Charleston, SC, daughter: Ava Thompson of Springfield, grandchildren: Trey Barbee, Angel Starks, Todd Barbee, Conald Wayne Robertson, Jr., and Justin Lee Robertson, step-grandchild: Caroline Paterson, and six great grandchildren
