Essie Hill Obituary

******UPDATED SERVICE TIME******

Essie Sue Hill was born on September 21, 1954, in Robertson County, Tennessee, to the late Mr. Willie Lee Finch and Georgia Helen Finch. From this union, nine children were born, five of whom preceded her in death.

Essie Sue Hill departed this life in the early morning hours of Saturday, January 17, 2026.

As the youngest of nine in a God-fearing family, Essie Sue was a devoted believer in Christ with a deep love for God’s Word. An avid reader and lifelong learner, she could finish books in hours and passionately studied Scripture, engaging thoughtfully and confidently in biblical discussion.

Essie Sue graduated from Springfield High School in 1972 as part of its first integrated class and went on to a successful career in retail management. Known for her strong work ethic and dependability, she had a natural ability to connect with people, earning the trust and respect of both customers and colleagues through her professionalism and genuine guidance.

Essie was affectionately known as “Sue.” She entered holy matrimony with the late Joe Hill, and together they shared the joy of raising one son. She is survived by her son, Marcus (Coretta) Hill, one loving granddaughter, Kimari Hill, and one grandson, Christopher Fears, all of Jacksonville, Florida.

Among her surviving family members are her brother, Bob Finch, of Sacramento, California, and two sisters: Mattie Shannon of Clarksville, Tennessee, and Edna (John) Benton of Springfield, Tennessee. She is also fondly remembered by a host of nieces and nephews, cousins, and lifelong friends. She shared a particularly close and devoted bond with her niece, Teresa (Sidney) Banks.

Her life reflected faith, perseverance, and quiet strength. She will be remembered for her commitment to family, her belief in God, and the grace and quiet strength with which she lived her life.

Essie Sue Hill leaves behind cherished memories that will forever remain in the hearts of those who knew and loved her.
