Effie Mae Payne departed this journey of life on Sunday August 23, 2020, at a blessed age of ninety years old, peacefully at her home in Cottontown. Funeral services will be conducted Saturday August 29th at 1:00 p.m. in the Oakhurst Chapel of the Robertson County Funeral Home with Reverend J.D. Harris and Reverend Walter Grant officiating. Interment will follow in Oak Grove Missionary Baptist Cemetery in Cottontown. Pallbearers will be Jeffrey, Labron, Michael, Carlos, Chad, Derrick, Tyrone, Keaton, and James Eddie Payne, Jr., Larry Wadlington, and Jeremiah Sublett. Flower Bearers will be her granddaughters. The family will receive friends on Saturday from 11:00 a.m. until service time at the funeral home.
Mrs. Payne was born on October 30, 1929 in Sumner County to the late George and Frances Strain. She professed a hope in Christ at an early age and later joined the Oak Grove Missionary Baptist Church where she served as an usher for many years. She was a faithful member until her health failed. Mrs. Payne loved growing flowers, canning, and gardening. She had a quiet/shy spirit, yet tough as nails and very strong. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband: Eddie Lee Payne, by her brother: John Roy Strain, by her sister: Birdie Strain, and by her stepsons: James Eddie Payne and Ardell Payne.
Effie Mae Payne leaves to cherish her memory, her two daughters, Frances L. Graves (John) of Elkton, KY, and Mary Elaine Payne (Leo) of Madison, her four sons: Harry Lee Payne (Shirley) of Cottontown, Elmer Payne (Kathy) of Bowling Green, KY, Leonard Ray Payne (Debora) of Cottontown, and Larry Payne (Vera) of Springfield, her step-son, Harrison Arneal Payne of Indianapolis, IN, her twenty-seven grandchildren and a host of great and great great grandchildren, her sister-in-law, Odessa Bell of Nashville, her two devoted nieces, Sue Groves and Ann Smith, as by other nieces, relatives, and friends
