Edward Tanner, Jr., age 87 of Springfield, passed from this life on Wednesday, February 5, 2025 at NHC Healthcare in Springfield. Funeral services will be conducted Saturday, February 8, 2025 at 3:00 pm in the Oakhurst Chapel of Robertson County Funeral Home with David Dean officiating. Burial will follow in Springfield Memorial Gardens with his grandchildren serving as pallbearers. The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Saturday from 10 AM until the time of service.
Mr. Tanner was born July 20, 1937 in Springfield to the late Edward and Lorine Evans Tanner, Sr. He was a member of Lighthouse Baptist Church and was a retired Maintenance Director at Springfield Baptist Church. He previously worked at Acme Boot and Hinkle Chair Company. He loved fishing when he was able, woodworking, and enjoyed taking care of his neighbor’s yards. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Geneva Plunkett Tanner, and his sisters, Diane Milam and Bonnie Goostree.
Surviving him are his sons and daughters-in-law, Bobby and Dixie Tanner of Lake Placid, FL, Richard and Darla Tanner of Springfield, and John and Jennifer Tanner of Lebanon; brother, Terry Tanner of Springfield; eight grandchildren; and nine great grandchildren.
The family would like to express their sincere thanks to the staffs at Morningside and NHC in Springfield. They were exceptional and cared for him well. A special thanks to Misty Payne and Kesha Hardin at NHC for lovingly caring for him at the end.
