Davis Ewing “Popeye” Tate, 84, of Portland-Orlinda, passed from this life on Wednesday January 27, 2021 at his home. Funeral services will be conducted Sunday January 31st at 2:00 p.m. at the Milldale Chapel with Dr. Steve Freeman officiating. Interment will follow in the Groves Family Cemetery in Portland with his grandsons serving as pallbearers. The family will receive friends on Sunday from 10:00 a.m. until service time at the Milldale Chapel.
Davis was born May 15, 1936 in Cross Plains. He was a farmer and he also had worked at Wicks Lumber Company. He served in the Army National Guard from 1954 to 1963. Davis was a member of Pleasant Hill Baptist Church. He loved his family and enjoyed being with them. Davis also enjoyed fishing, family cookouts, going to tractor pulls and machinery shows. He was preceded in death by his parents: Ewing and Evie Gale Rippy Tate, and by his sisters: Rebecca Gassman and Katherine Bostic.
Davis is survived by his wife, Eleanora Johnson Tate, whom he would be married to for 66 years in July of this year, by his sons and daughter-in-law: Richard Dale Tate of Springfield, Gary Davis and Susan Tate of Springfield, by his sister: Evelyn Jones of Whites Creek, by his grandsons: Heath (Charissa) Tate of Portland, Clint (Jada) Tate of Cross Plains, Claudale (Summer) Tate of Portland, Lance (Chucky) Tate of Portland, Brandon (Hannah) Tate of Springfield, Kyle Tate of Springfield, and Chad (Bryanna) Tate of Springfield, and by his great grandchildren: Katarina (Blake) Ruby, Kodie Searcy, Lilli Tate, Dawson Tate, Dustin Tate, Blayden Tate, and Kyleigh Tate.
