Betty Sue (Rainwater) Holmes

Betty Sue Rainwater Holmes, age 82, of Orlinda, TN went to be with her Lord on Sunday, August 30, 2020 at TriStar Skyline Medical Center.

Mrs. Holmes was born May 6, 1938 in Orlinda, TN to the late Grady Proctor Rainwater and Laura Louise Cherry Rainwater. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by two younger sisters, Mary Louise Rainwater and Judy Carolyn Rainwater, and a brother, Alton Ray Rainwater and wife, Annette.

Mrs. Holmes is survived by her husband of 64 years, James Albert Holmes; one son, Dr. James Christopher Holmes and wife, Beth; one grandson, Henry Christopher Holmes, all of Owensboro, KY. She is also survived by one brother, Donald Rainwater and wife, Tommie, of Warner Robins, GA; and one sister, Linda R. Watts and husband, Charles, of Springfield, TN, as well as several nieces and nephews and their families, a special friend, Ms. Jean Wilks, plus many cousins and other relatives and friends.

Mrs. Holmes was a faithful member of Pleasant Hill Baptist Church for over sixty years. She served in many capacities, including Sunday School teacher, secretary, G.A. leader, and VBS worker.

Mrs. Holmes worked as a bookkeeper, clerical worker, bank cashier, church secretary, and a legal secretary. She enjoyed music, sewing, keeping house, spending special times with Chris in his younger days, reading and visiting with friends, especially at the Byrum Porter Senior Center.

Visitation will be Wednesday, September 2, 2020 from 4:00-8:00 p.m. at the Milldale Chapel in Milldale, TN and on Thursday, September 3, 2020 from 10:00 a.m.-12:00 p.m. at the Pleasant Hill Baptist Church in Orlinda, TN. The funeral service will follow at 12:00 p.m. Burial will be in the Pleasant Hill Cemetery.

Robertson County Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Pleasant Hill Baptist Church.
