Bettie married her husband Don B. Payne on June 10, 1948 and moved to Springfield, TN where she joined Springfield Baptist Church and taught Sunday school for many years. Her church was a very important part of her life and she was very much the encourager to all who entered its doors. Bettie wanted to be of service to others as she started two fund raisers for the Robertson County American Cancer Society, the Spring Fling and Relay for Life. She was a longtime member of the Daughters of the American Revolution and the Short Story Club.
Always putting her family first, she was a true southern lady. Surviving her are her husband of 67 years, Don B. Payne of Springfield; sons, Jeffrey B. (Dianne) Payne of Goodlettsville, David B. Payne of Nashville,; daughter, Donna Ann (Bruce) Pierce of Danville, KY; grandchildren, Joseph Pierce, Allyson (Brandon) Salisbury, Daniel Payne, Daniela Payne, Alex Payne, Natalie Payne and great grandchildren, Addy Salisbury and Gunner Payne. In addition to her parents, Mrs. Payne was also preceded in death by her brothers, Frank "Bud" Bowen Jr. and Charles E. Bowen, of Atlanta.
If so desired, the family request that memorial donations may be made to the Alzheimer's Association or the American Cancer Society. All donations may be sent in care of the Robertson County Funeral Home.
