Tommy Mayes

Thomas Alton "Tommy" Mayes, 82, of Greenbrier, died Monday January 29, 2018 at Brookdale in Goodlettsville. Funeral services will be conducted Wednesday January 31st at 11:00 a.m. at the Greenbrier United Methodist Church with Pastor Don Sensing and Tim Harris officiating. Interment will follow in Springfield Memorial Gardens with David Mayes, Cliff Horn, Clifton Horn, Ethan Horn, Richard Clark, and Cameron Clark serving as pallbearers. The family will receive friends on Tuesday from 4:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. at the Robertson County Funeral Home and on Wednesday from 10:00 a.m. until service time at the Greenbrier United Methodist Church.

Mr. Mayes was born October 19, 1935 in Robertson County to the late Homer Alton and Margaret Crawford Mayes. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army. He worked many years with Boyd Distributing Company, and then retired from Tennessee Light & Appliance. After his retirement, he served as custodian of Greenbrier United Methodist Church. Mr. Mayes was a charter member of the Springfield Civitan Club and was a lifelong member of Greenbrier United Methodist Church. He was a Draftsman, enjoyed woodworking, fishing, and was an avid Vanderbilt Commodore's fan. He loved his family and his favorite pastime was being with his grandchildren.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother: Norman Bruce Mayes. Mr. Mayes is survived by his wife of 60 years, Peggy Riggins Mayes of Greenbrier, daughter and son-in-law: Margaret Ann and Jim Williams of Greenbrier, grandchildren: Duncan Williams and wife Katie, Kathryn Criswell and husband Kevin, Kaitlyn Williams, great grandchildren: Lucas Williams and Andrew Criswell, several nieces and nephews
