Russell Holman Obituary

Russell Holman, 89, of Springfield, passed from this life on Sunday April 28, 2019 at his home. Funeral services will be conducted on Wednesday May 1st at 1:00 p.m. at the Barren Plains Baptist Church with Brother Adam Hodges, Bro. Andy King, and Tim Harris officiating. Interment will follow in Springfield Memorial Gardens with David Harden, Levi Harden, John Holman Taylor, Jeremy Taylor, Allan Ellis, Steven Bates Head, Timmy Head, and Jeremy Durham serving as pallbearers. Honorary pallbearers will be the deacons of Barren Plains Baptist Church, the McDonald’s Coffee Club, and the Springfield Gideon Camp. The family will receive friends on Tuesday from 4:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. at the Robertson County Funeral Home and on Wednesday from 10:00 a.m. until service time at the Barren Plains Baptist Church.

Mr. Holman was born March 25, 1930 in Springfield to the late Wallace Caryle and Dorothy Felts Holman. He was a graduate of Springfield High School Class of 1948. He began his working career as a farmer. He worked for AVCO Aerostructures for several years. Mr. Holman then worked for the Robertson County Board of Education where he retired as the Maintenance Supervisor. After his retirement, he then went to work for the Springfield Housing Authority as a part time Project Manager, of which he did until his health would no longer allow him to. Mr. Holman was a member of Barren Plains Baptist Church, where he taught Sunday School for 44 years, served as a deacon for 50 plus years, and was Deacon Chairman and Moderator for many years.  He  was  an active member of the Robertson County Baptist Men’s Association. Mr. Holman was a member of the Springfield Gideon Camp and the McDonald’s Coffee Club. In his younger years, he enjoyed playing softball as the team pitcher. He loved gardening, traveling, and especially loved sharing his bar-b-que and grilling skills with his family and friends. Mr. Holman’s greatest hobby was woodworking, and he enjoyed making grandfather clocks. He was loved by his community, his church family, his friends, and especially by his wife, children, grandchildren, great grandchildren, and their spouses. In addition to his parents, Mr. Holman was preceded in death by his brother: Billy Caryle Holman.

Mr. Holman is survived by his wife, Margie Ellis Holman, whom he would celebrate 67 years of marriage this coming September, by his daughters and son-in-law: Judy Holman of Springfield, Debby and Allan Ellis of Springfield, his grandchildren: David Harden and wife Amy, Bethany Taylor and husband Jeremy, Emily Ellis-Head and husband Tim, and Dr. Jessica Durham and husband Jeremy, and by his great grandchildren: Lynleigh Taylor, Neylee Harden, John Holman Taylor, Levi Harden, Steven Bates Head, and Jordan Head
