James Richard “Ricky” Murphy, 61, of Springfield, passed away on Wednesday August 14, 2019 at North Crest Medical Center. Funeral services will be conducted Monday August 19th at 10:00 a.m. in the Oakhurst Chapel of the Robertson County Funeral Home with Pastor Quinton Yates officiating. Interment will follow in Springfield Memorial Gardens with Reynolds Boyd, Grant Bell, James T. Marshall, Billy Vogle, Jack Jones, Jack Hollingsworth, Barry Head, and Gerald Jones serving as pallbearers. The family will receive friends on Sunday from 3:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. and on Monday from 9:00 a.m. until service time at the funeral home.
Ricky was born September 8, 1957 in Springfield. He was a graduate of Jo Byrns High School Class of 1975. Ricky was a lifelong farmer. He also was an auctioneer and a was a State Bid Champion. In past years, Ricky was a premier pitcher for the Mt. Denson Church Softball team. He was a member of Mt. Olive Missionary Baptist Church, where he was greatly involved in the building expansion. He enjoyed horseback riding, playing basketball, and was an avid UT Vols fan. Ricky especially loved spending time with his grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his father: James Warren Murphy and by his sister: Laurie Murphy. Ricky is survived by his wife: Tabatha Murphy of Springfield, by his mother: Ivy Nell Roe Murphy of Springfield, by his daughters: Marissa Chachra and husband Vishesh of Los Angeles, CA, Jamie Marvin and husband Michael of White House, and MaKiya Williams of Springfield, by his sons: Antonio Lawson, Jr. and Daniel Lawson both of Springfield, and by his grandchildren: Chandler Marvin, Carter Marvin, Lalia Chachra, CaMiya Lawson, Antonio Lawson, III, Daniel Lawson, Jr., and soon to be born in November: James Richard Lawson.
