Harriet Corbitt Dorris, age 93 of Springfield, died Thursday, February 21, 2019 at the Waters of Robertson. Funeral services will be conducted Tuesday, February 26, 2019 at 2:00 in the Oakhurst Chapel of Robertson County Funeral Home with Bro. Jim Woodard and Bro. Joe Rushing officiating. Burial will follow in Springfield Memorial Gardens with Lee Swearingen, Philip Dorris, Corbitt Dorris, Brent Dorris, Jeremey Justice, Terry Michael Creasey, and Scotty Gillentine serving as pallbearers. The family will receive friends at the funeral home Tuesday from 10- AM until the hour of service.
Mrs. Dorris was born August 6, 1925 in Davidson County to the late Thomas Buford and Mary Bradley Corbitt, Sr. She was a member of Springfield Baptist Church and had worked at Nasco in Springfield as a secretary. Her greatest joy was her family whom she loved and cared for dearly. She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, and great grandmother. She enjoyed keeping her grandchildren and great grandchildren and she always knew what was going on in the lives of her family. She also enjoyed going to Bill Gaither concerts and quartet conventions with her husband and also playing gospel hymns on the piano and organ. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Bruce M. Dorris; a son, Terry Lynn Dorris; a grandson, Stephen Bruce Dorris, II; and her brother, Thomas Buford Corbitt, Jr.
She is survived by her son Stephen Bruce Dorris, Sr. and wife Carolyn of Nicholasville, KY; daughters, Pamela Swearingen and husband Jody and Denise Dorris, both of Springfield; daughter-in-law, Cissy Midgett and husband Al of Lebanon; grandchildren Terri Ann Swearingen, Lee (Ashlee) Swearingen Traci Swearingen (Jeremey) Justice, Tera (Scotty) Gillentine, Brent (Amy) Dorris, Philip B. Dorris (Megan Stark), Maribeth Dorris, and Terry Corbitt Dorris; great grandchildren, Taylor Paige Swearingen, Chloee Swearingen, Cline Swearingen, Terry Michael (Maura) Creasey, Sera Pulley, Aubrey Dorris, Kaylee Dorris, Sloan Dorris, Journey Dorris, and Corah Dorris; and nieces, Barbara Corbitt and Linda Jenkins, both of Nashville.
The family request, if so desired, for memorial contributions to be made to St. Jude Children’s Hospital. All donations can be sent c/o Robertson County Funeral Home.
