Fred Schott Jr Obituary

Fred Warren Schott, Jr., 86, of Springfield, passed away on Tuesday January 1, 2019 at his home from Lewy Body Dementia. Funeral services will be conducted Friday January 4th at 1:00 p.m. in the Oakhurst Chapel of the Robertson County Funeral Home with Reverend Chris Warren and Reverend Steve Shauf officiating. Interment will follow in Springfield Memorial Gardens with Richard Mayfield, David Thomas, Mike Parker, Bob DeBerry, Teddy Douglas, and Trent Randolph serving as pallbearers. Honorary pallbearers will be Andy Gupton, Jim and Kim Schott. The family will receive friends on Thursday from 4:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. and on Friday from 11:00 a.m. until service time at the funeral home.

Reverend Schott was born June 23, 1932 in Davidson County to the late Fred W. and Elizabeth Black Schott, Sr. He was a graduate of Isaac Litton High School and Bethel College in McKenzie, TN. He then received his Master of Divinity degree from Vanderbilt Divinity School. He was an ordained Cumberland Presbyterian minister with the Nashville Presbytery. His first church was with Highland Chapel Union Church in Ridgetop. Reverend Schott went on to pastor several churches during his ministry, including Mt. Denson/Jones Chapel Cumberland Presbyterian Churches from 1959-1967 and he was the founding pastor of St. Luke Cumberland Presbyterian Church in Nashville. He was a retired Major from the Tennessee Highway Patrol Department of Safety, with 25 years of service. He was Director of Driver Control during the time that drivers license with photos became law, and he also served as an instructor with the THP. After his retirement from the THP, he went on to serve as Chief of Police with the Goodlettsville Police department from which he also retired. Reverend Schott was instrumental in organizing the Robertson County Fire Department, where he served as the first Fire Chief. He served as Chaplain for the FBI and THP, was a former member of the Springfield Lions Club, worked many years as an election machine technician for the Robertson County Election Commission, and served as music director for Parkway, Beech, and Mt. Sharon Cumberland Presbyterian Churches.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his son: Fred Warren Schott, III. Reverend Schott is survived by his wife of 67 years: Mary Ann Demerich Schott of Springfield, his son: Charles Maynor Schott of Springfield, his daughter-in-law: Merna Schott of Maryville, his grandchildren: Chad Schott and Cary Zeipekkis, his great grandchild: Bonnie Zeipekkis, his brother: C. Dake Schott of Hermitage, and by his sister: Emily Mooneyhan of Hermitage.
