Carl Matthews Obituary

Carl Edmund Matthews, 83, of Greenbrier, departed this life on Friday May 24, 2019 at his home. Funeral services will be conducted Wednesday May 29th at 3:00 p.m. in the Oakhurst Chapel of the Robertson County Funeral Home with Brother Martin Babb officiating. Interment will follow in Springfield Memorial Gardens with Don Pugh, Walter Martin, Skip Carpenter, and Bobby Murray serving as pallbearers. The family will receive friends on Wednesday from 12 noon until service time at the funeral home.

Mr. Matthews was born August 25, 1935 in Johnston, North Carolina to the late Clarence and Eva Beasley Matthews. He was a retired electronics technician with the Federal Aviation Administration and was a member of Springfield Baptist Church. Mr. Matthews enjoyed writing music, playing his guitar, and birdwatching. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his daughter: Cindy Verhegge, his brother: Maxie Matthews, and his granddaughter: Sarah Woodall.

Mr. Matthews is survived by his wife: Shelia Pugh Matthews of Greenbrier, his daughters and son-in-law: Rachel and Tim Powlas of Anchorage, Alaska, Lisa Malone of Murfreesboro, his sister and brother-in-law: Joan and Jack Wheeler of Durham, NC, his grandchildren: Evan Powlas, Darrell Woodall, Ryan Verheggee, Max Nerheggee, Sydney Verheggee, Amy Malone, and Caitlin Pasquale, and by 7 great grandchildren.
