Ramona Heatherly Obituary

Ramona S. Heatherly, 89, of Springfield, died Saturday October 14, 2017 at the home of her daughter in Murfreesboro. Funeral services will be conducted Wednesday October 18th at 2:00 p.m. in the Oakhurst Chapel of the Robertson County Funeral Home with Dr. Tommy Crunk officiating. Interment will follow in Springfield Memorial Gardens with Steve Sanders, Kenny Batts, Alfred Boyter, Joe Fort, Jeff Hart, Mickey Hale, Darrell Johnson, and Skip Johnson serving as pallbearers. The family will receive friends on Wednesday from 11:00 a.m. until service time at the funeral home.

Ramona was born August 30, 1928 in Tipton County, TN to the late Ray Wood and Mabel Lackey Shoaf. She was a retired Director of Environmental Services at North Crest Medical Center with 36 years of service, and was a member of Woodland Street United Methodist Church. During her years at Jesse Holman Jones Hospital and North Crest Medical Center, Ramona helped many of the people who worked for her. She was always willing to lend money when someone needed it and was told that she was often the reason some of her employees were able to feed their families. Ramona was known for being a "plain spoken" person. She did not mince words but told things just as she saw them. What you saw with Ramona was just what you got - like it or not. She was pretty much set in her ways and not one for change. If she was happy with something, she stuck with it. She was known by many as the "Cat Woman" and "Yard Sale Lady". She loved animals, especially cats. For years she would take in homeless cats and always complain about how much they were going to cost her at the Vet and for feeding them, but she still took care of them and loved them. She had at least two yards sales a year, one in the summer and one in the fall. Ramona had so many friends across the years. Many of them from her hospital days that she wanted to recognize a few: Phyllis Pulley Molyneux, Bob Cassidy, Debbie Hart, Joe Fort, Kenny Batts, Dr. Tommy Crunk, as well as many others. Ramona would want to be remembered as a simple and humble woman. A woman who was plain spoken and fair and generous to others. A woman who knew what hard work was and appreciated everything she worked hard for. A woman with a hard exterior, but a kind heart on the interior. A woman who cherished her friends, family, and loved her Lord and Savior.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband: Harold "Red" Heatherly, whom she was married to for 19 years and always said that her happiest years were with Red.. Ramona is survived by her son: Lewis Teasley of Springfield, and by her daughter and son-in-law: Sheila and Jim Rider of Murfreesboro, and several nieces and nephews.
