James Graham McDougal, 89, of Hendersonville, passed away on Monday August 15, 2016. He was born September 15, 1926 in Davidson County to the late William Robinson and Laura Graham McDougal. Mr. McDougal was a veteran of the U.S. Navy, having served in WWII. He was a Fireman 1st Class and served on the USS LST522, and the USS Tortuga. He retired as a supervisor with the Nashville Post Office, with over 30 years of service, and was a member of the Hendersonville Church of Christ.
Mr. McDougal was a man with a compassionate heart. He was always giving and loved to help anyone. He enjoyed giving 2 dollar bills to children and to waiters at restaurants. He loved to debate politics and the pronunciation of words. If you asked him how he was doing, the answer you might receive would probably be "charming, handsome, witty, intelligent, and blessed". If you asked him if he needed anything, the definite answer he would give you would be "since you mentioned it, a million dollars". He enjoyed woodworking, gardening, photography, writing poetry and short stories, writing Letters to the Editor, leatherworking, magic tricks, archery, guns, and knives.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Marjorie Burnett McDougal, who died in January of this year, by his brother: William R. "Billy" McDougal, and by his sister: Jean McDougal. Mr. McDougal is survived by his son and daughter-in-law: John and Shirley McDougal, Sr., of Greenbrier, by his daughter and son-in-law: Patricia and Jeff Borsini of Cleveland, OH, brother and sister-in-law: Larry and Nancy McDougal of Nashville, sister and brother-in-law: Ann and Bruce Gillespie of Arizona, sister-in-law: Bonnie McDougal, grandchildren: John L. (Shannon) McDougal, Jr., Carie (Abraham) Chavez, Philip Jason (Tina) McDougal, Christina (Kelsey) Hendricks, Michael Borsini, great grandchildren: Joshua Chavez, John McDougal III, Georgia Bean, Judah Chavez, Abigail Chavez, Kira McDougal, Logan Chavez, Dylan Chavez.
Funeral services will be conducted Thursday August 18th at 6:00 p.m. at the Hendersonville Church of Christ with Brother Bill Ruhl officiating. The family will receive friends on Thursday from 4:00 p.m. until service time at the Hendersonville Church of Christ. Interment will be on Friday August 19th at 10:00 a.m. in the Spring Hill Cemetery on Gallatin Road in Nashville with John McDougal, Jr., John McDougal, III, Eugene Wright, Buddy Traughber, Jason McDougal, and Jeff Borsini serving as pallbearers.
