Gladys Mayo Moulton, age 94 of Springfield, died Wednesday, April 27, 2016 at Morningside of Springfield. Funeral services will be conducted Friday, April 29, 2016 at 3:00 PM in the Oakhurst Chapel of Robertson County Funeral Home with Rev. Ed Coy and Joan Powell officiating. Interment will follow in Springfield Memorial Gardens with Joe Henry, Curt Mott, Bruce Rippy, Curtis Mott, Brett Rippy, Seth Stroud, Ivan Gregory, Ethan DeLoach, and Randy Wilson serving as pallbearers. Honorary pallbearers will be Jake Jernigan, Jeffery A. Yates, and former colleagues, staff members, and students who were a part of Gladys Moulton's teaching career.
Mrs. Gladys was born November 9, 1921 in Robertson County to the late Robert "Bob" and Eunice Ellis Mayo. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, John L. Moulton,; her sister, Frances Mayo Kelley; and grandson-in-law, G. Charles Stroud.
Mrs. Moulton was a graduate of Coopertown High School, Lambuth College, and Austin Peay State University. She taught in Robertson County for 40 years: 2 years at Lamont School and 38 years at Coopertown Elementary and Middle School, and continued to be a substitute at Coopertown for many years. She was a longtime member of New Chapel United Methodist Church where she served as organist for more than 45 years. She served as a member of the NorthCrest Auxiliary and was a member of the Red Hat Society. She resided at Morningside for the last 8 years of her life where she loved and appreciated the support and friendship of the entire staff and where she made many lasting memories with all the friends she made there.
Mrs. Moulton is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Janyth and Larry Henry of Cross Plains; son and daughter-in-law, John Christopher and Lisa Moulton of Hendersonville; grandchildren, Beth (Bruce) Rippy, Jane (Curt Jr.) Mott, Julie Stroud, Joe (Lacy) Henry, Sarah (Ethan) DeLoach, Paige (Luke) Lewis, and Lyndsey Moulton; great grandchildren, Brooke (Ivan) Gregory, Brett Rippy, Curtis (Farran) Mott, Caitlyn Mott, Seth Stroud, Brayden Suiter, Tatum Henry, Blake Henry, and Ella Kate DeLoach; great-great grandchildren, Emma Mott, Henry Gregory, and Cooper Mott; and loving caregivers and friends, Renee Redfern, Patsy Anderson, Shannon Sampson, and Robbie Carlton.
The family request if so desired for memorial contributions to be made to New Chapel United Methodist Church or NorthCrest Hospice. All donations can be sent c/o Robertson County Funeral Home.
