Dorothy Fuqua Burney, 96, lifelong resident of the Ashburn community in Springfield, went to be with her Lord and Savior on Thursday February 9, 2017. A Celebration of Life will be held on Saturday February 11th at 2:00 p.m. in the Oakhurst Chapel of the Robertson County Funeral Home with Rev. Jeff Myers officiating. Interment will follow in Springfield Memorial Gardens with Jeff Orndorff, Rich Moore, Chad Hall, Mike Offutt, Nick Offutt, E.J. Offutt, Bobby Warren, Ryan Orndorff, and Corey Krulik serving as pallbearers. Honorary pallbearers will be Kelly Randolph, Jay Fuqua, Jerry Fuqua, Jane Holloway, Wanda Curtis, Evelyn Orndorff, Rhonda Elmore, Bethany Burton, Mary Taylor, and Julie Bernard. The family will receive friends on Saturday from 9:00 a.m. until service time at the funeral home.
Mrs. Burney was born November 6, 1920 in the Ashburn community in Springfield to the late Edgar G. and Mintie Williams Fuqua. She graduated from the eighth grade at Fuqua School. Each day going to school she would have to cross a swinging bridge that her brother, Jesse Fuqua, was always sure to make swing more as she crossed it. She graduated high school from Barren Plains School. Mrs. Burney from time to time worked at the Ashburn Store, but spent most of her time as a homemaker. She loved gardening, canning, and was a wonderful cook. Someone once stated that she could make a nine-course meal out of a sack of potatoes. Mrs. Burney was a member of Oak Grove Baptist Church. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband: Leonard Mathews Burney, and by her siblings: Jimmy, Johnny, William Caleb, and Jesse Fuqua, Annie Lou Barrow, and Elizabeth Lee Hancock.
Mrs. Burney is survived by her daughters and son-in-law: Donna Gwynn and Bob Orndorff of Adairville, KY, Lillian Diane and Joe Krulik of Springfield, Darlynn and Richard Moore of Adairville, KY, grandchildren: Jeff (Evelyn) Orndorff, Emily (Mike) Offutt, Rich Moore, Jessica (Chad) Hall, step-grandchildren: Joseph (Kristy) Krulik, Corey (Laurie) Krulik, eight great grandchildren, three step-great grandchildren, and three great great grandchildren
