Alvin Fowler Obituary

Alvin Wesley Fowler, age 83 of Springfield, died Tuesday, July 8, 2014 at his home. Funeral services will be conducted Saturday, July 12, 2014 at 2:00 PM in the Oakhurst Chapel of Robertson County Funeral Home with Rev. Joe Hinkle officiating. Burial will follow in Robertson County Memorial Gardens with Mike Fowler, Robert Fowler, Stephen Fowler, Alan Fowler, Larry Pratt, Donnie Hart, Tommy Perkins, Tom Holt, Bobby Payne, Jerry Farmer, Vincent Bagwell, Michael Jackson, and Jimmy Oliver serving as pallbearers. Honorary pallbearers will be all current and former employees of Jesse Holman Jones Hospital and NorthCrest Medical Center. The family will receive friends at the funeral home Friday from 4 until 8 PM and Saturday from 11 AM until the hour of service. Masonic services will be conducted Friday at 8 PM. Mr. Fowler was born January 21, 1931 in Smith County to the late Comer M. and Altie Stuart Fowler. He was a member of Barren Plains Baptist Church and a veteran of the United States Navy having served in the Korean War. He was a 50 year Mason, a member of Western Star Lodge #9 in Springfield, a 32nd degree Scottish Rite Mason, and a Shriner member of Al Menah Temple. He was a 42 year member of the Board of Directors of NorthCrest Medical Center and the former Jesse Holman Jones Hospital, a 1963 charter member of the Springfield Civitan Club, and a former member of the Board of the Robertson County Museum. He also was a 1950 graduate of Springfield High School having played for Coach Boyce Smith, a former fireman with the city of Springfield, and a founding member of the Robertson County Fire Department in 1959. He is survived by his wife, Bettye Fowler of Springfield; sons, Greg Fowler and wife Tammy of Cumming, GA and Chip Miller and wife Hilda of Springfield; daughters, JoEllen Fowler of Springfield, Annette Fowler of Nashville, and Jaynie Miller of Pahrump, NV; brother, Lloyd Fowler and wife Peggy of Springfield; grandchildren, Kelsie Fowler, David Fowler, Matt Miller, and Cayce McDonald; and great grandchildren, Kaili, Joshua, and Samantha McDonald.
The family request memorial contributions be made to the Robertson County Museum or the Shriner Children's Hospital. All donations can be sent c/o Robertson County Funeral Home.
