Alene Jones Obituary

Alene Dorris Gann Jones, born in Robertson County on January 8, 1921, to Leonard and Overa Dorris, died June 17, 2015 at Christian Care Center in Springfield. Preceded in death by parents, husbands, Charles Gann and Rodney Jones, brother, Raymond Dorris, and sister, Gladys Dorris Holland.
Survived by son, Terry Gann (Linda) of Tuscon, AZ; devoted nephew, Duane Elliott (Vernona) of Cedar Hill; great nephew, Dana Elliott (Teresa) and children, Grace, Rachel, and Craig of Hilham; great nephew, David Elliott (K.C.) and children, Joshua, Benjamin, and Eden of Carrollton, TX; and long-time devoted caregiver and loved friend, Deidra Mitchell.
Mrs. Jones was a member of Ebenezer Baptist Church in Greenbrier for most of her adult life where she taught Sunday school for thirty-six years. A graduate of New York School of Interior Design, she worked in Nashville. She also operated an antique shop out of her home for several years. Together with her first husband, Charles Gann, they designed and built their dream log home on Old Greenbrier Pike where it still stands.
She enjoyed many hobbies including reading (especially biographies), writing poetry, sewing most of her clothes, baking, cooking, and quilting. She loved all aspects of homemaking, but her greatest ambition and goal in life was to love God and Country, be a faithful Christian, a good wife and mother, and always to show love, friendship and kindness toward others. She was blessed with a long and eventful life.
Funeral services will be conducted Saturday, June 20, 2015 at 1:00 PM in the Oakhurst Chapel with Rev. Jack Evans officiating. Burial will follow in Springfield Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends at the funeral home Friday from 4 until 8 PM and Saturday from 12 noon until the hour of service. The family suggest memorial contributions be made to the Ebenezer Baptist Church Building Fund. All donations can be sent c/o Robertson County Funeral Home 615-384-0036.
